Artificial Brain are back with a new album. The death metal outfit have spent more than a decade carving out their guttural but cosmic sound, and Antillia is the next chapter. It's a killer development.
The band have shuffled lineups plenty over the years, going all the way back to their brutal 2014 debut Labyrinth Constellation. This time the change comes with a location shift too. Once an international crew anchored in New York, Artificial Brain now call Richmond, Virginia home, a hub for the heaviest underground music out there.
That move brought new blood: Inter Arma frontman Mike Paparo on vocals and Battlemaster's Alex Tomlin behind the kit. The refreshed roster suits their sprawling, sci fi tinted assault. Lead track "Quantum Malignancies" proves it, a dense ripper that swirls and pummels at once.
For a band that peaked hard on 2020's self titled record, this feels like real momentum. Antillia is shaping up to be a monster.
