Bloc Party are back with "Lagoon Blue," the final preview before Anatomy Of A Brief Romance lands this Friday. It's a moment. The band took some heat online for "Pigwigs," which admittedly wasn't the group firing on all cylinders, but these guys have never been ones to retreat.
Remember, this is the same band that dropped Silent Alarm back in 2005 and turned "Banquet" into an era-defining anthem. Two decades of reinvention later, they're still chasing the sound. "Lagoon Blue" leans into the atmospheric side Kele and company have flirted with since "Signs" off Intimacy, and it works as a proper closer to this album rollout.
The new record arrives Friday, capping off a rollout that's had its bumps and its highs. That's how these things go. Bloc Party persist, as they always have, and "Lagoon Blue" feels like a reminder of why we keep listening.
