Cate Kennan is back, and Shadows lands in June on Kranky. This is a moment worth marking.
The last time we heard a full-length from her, 2020's Hollow Frame, she was carving out those hushed, foggy soundscapes that made deep cuts like "Paper Weight" such a sleeper favorite among us. Kranky feels like the perfect home for whatever she's building now: a label that has always given slow-burn artists room to breathe.
We don't know the full shape of Shadows yet, but the title alone hints at the murky, patient textures she does so well. Think the drift of her early EP work, but stretched into something bigger. More space. More weight.
June cannot come fast enough. If this record lands anywhere near the quality of her past output, it could be the stunner that finally pushes her name past the whisper stage.
Mark your calendars. Kennan rarely misses, and this one already smells like a grower.
