Chvrches – “Roses”

Chvrches are back with "Roses," and it feels like a jolt. The Glasgow trio have been in between-albums mode since 2021's Screen Violence, that stunner of a comeback that reminded everyone why "The Mother We Share" hit so hard back in 2013. In the gap, everyone stayed busy. Lauren Mayberry stepped out solo, touring and dropping Vicious Creature in 2024. Martin Doherty launched his own thing, the Leaving. Even Chvrches proper kept moving: a few new tracks, plus covers of Postal Service and Robert Palmer for the Hulu drama Tell Me Lies.

So no, they never went away. They just took the scenic route.

"Roses" pulls them back to what they do best: those glassy synths, Mayberry's clear vocal cutting through, the ache underneath the shine. It's the sound that made The Bones Of What You Believe a landmark. This is a band with momentum again, and that matters.

The wait has been long. This gem makes it worth it.
