Deafheaven are cooking up a new EP, and guitarist Kerry McCoy calls it "by far the heaviest thing" they've ever done. That's a big claim from a band this loud.
Last year's Lonely People With Power was a stunner: heavy, gorgeous, and proof they still know how to level a room. It followed a long, complicated dance with the extreme metal underground that raised them. Remember when Sunbather split the world in half back in 2013? The blackgaze crowd loved it, the purists sneered, and Deafheaven kept moving. Now they're leaning all the way into intensity.
An EP is coming, and by McCoy's own word, it goes harder than anything in the catalog. Think the shrieking fury of "Dream House" pushed past its limit. This is a band that could have chased the pretty stuff forever, but they'd rather go for the throat.
Heavier than New Bermuda? We'll see. Either way, this is a moment worth chasing.
