Derrick Vella is back, and Dream Unending just announced a new album. Vella, the Tomb Mold guitarist who steers this duo through murk and beauty alike, keeps finding new corners to explore. This time it's Certain Uncertainties.
The context here is a busy season for the whole Tomb Mold camp. Two members turned up in Daydream Plus, whose Second Last Day of Summer even got a chiptune version last week. But Dream Unending has always been its own strange gem, blending guttural death-doom with noodley '80s studio-rock in ways that shouldn't work but do.
If you loved the way Tides Of Sorrow drifted on their earlier records, the new lead track "Strained Sincerity" is a stunner. It's heavy and weightless at once, a slow-burn belter that trusts its patience.
Vella has never been one to repeat himself, and this feels like another leap. The band keeps building momentum, record by record.
Press play and let it swallow you whole.
