Eric Church is back with a new single, and it's a big one. The Nashville heavyweight has always been one of country's most restless minds, the kind of guy who followed his gut into strange territory on last year's Evangeline Vs. The Machine. But here's the thing about Church: he's at his best when he leans into big, hearty old-school Southern rock. "On The Road" is exactly that.
This is Church in his comfort zone, chasing the same wide open sound that made "Springsteen" an anthem back in 2011 and gave "Chief" its whole outlaw swagger. The new track is a belter. It rolls with that classic-rock chug he loves, all grit and highway momentum, the sound of a man who has seen a million faces and rocked them all.
Church keeps proving he can zig when everyone expects a zag. "On The Road" shows both sides at once: the experimenter and the road dog. Turn it up and drive.
