Elena Tonra is back, and she's not doing it as Daughter this time. The voice behind "Youth" and the aching "Smother" from 2013's Days + Nights is reviving Ex:Re, her solo outlet, for a new album called Save As dropping at the end of the month. She's already loosed the lead track "Radio Station," a slow-burning stunner that proves the Ex:Re project was never a one-off experiment.
Now comes "Sleep," the follow-up single, and it lands like a gem. Tonra has always known how to turn hush into weight, something she did across Daughter's catalog from Not to Disappear through 2023's Stereo Mind Game. This feels like a continuation of that quiet-loud craft, just under a different name.
The self-titled Ex:Re debut arrived back in 2018 and felt like a breakup record you lived inside. Save As looks set to deepen that world.
