Fatima Al Qadiri is back with a new EP. It's called 3TWI (عتوي), landing October 9 via Hyperdub, and the title translates to "dirty old man" in Kuwaiti Arabic slang. The lead track, "7ilween," is out now. It arrives with a video directed by artist Sophia Al-Maria, and it's a stunner.
This is the first proper standalone release since 2021's Medieval Femme, though Al Qadiri hasn't been sitting still. She scored François Ozon's L'Étranger last year and has stacked up film work in between. The new EP runs four tracks. Two feature Bobo Secret and Lama3an, while the other two bring in Gumar, the Kuwaiti vocalist who lent her name to Al Qadiri's 2023 EP.
The cover art comes courtesy of original paintings by Khalid al Gharaballi, which fits the whole textured, ornate world she's been building since Asiatisch back in 2014.
Four tracks, big names, and that singular Hyperdub sheen. October can't come fast enough.
