Fog Lake is back. Aaron Powell, the Newfoundland-raised, Montreal-based songwriter behind the project, has announced his seventh album Hollowbody, due out next month. The lead single is called "Bogus," and it's a gem.
Powell has been building this world for years now. If you've followed him since the lo-fi haze of early records, you know the move: fragile vocals, bedroom textures, a sadness that creeps up slow. Last year's Midnight Society sharpened all of it, and Hollowbody looks set to push further.
"Bogus" lands right in that sweet spot. It's hushed and heavy, the kind of track that rewards headphones at 2am, the kind of sleeper that grows with every listen.
Seven albums deep, Powell keeps mining the same emotional territory without ever repeating himself. From those early tapes to now, the craft has only tightened. Hollowbody feels like another step forward for one of indie's most consistent quiet storms.
Mark the date. This is a moment worth catching early, before the rest of the world catches up.
