Squelette are back, and their new EP Soir d'Orage is an absolute stunner. Here's the thing: France has built its own take on oi, that chant-along street-punk sound you'd swear was born in Britain. But the French crew flipped it.
Bands like Syndrome 81, Prisonnier Du Temps, Oi Boys, and Rancoeur drench the style in echo, dragging in goth and post-punk until it turns dank, mysterious, and ridiculously cool. Squelette fit right into that lineage. Soir d'Orage leans hard into the reverb-soaked gloom, every track a shadowy belter built for basement shows and late-night walks.
And the sound is traveling. You can hear the same wells feeding Quebec's Béton Armé and Edmonton's Home Front, which tells you this scene has real momentum now. It's not a one-city thing anymore.
This is street punk that knows how to brood. Melodic, menacing, and catchy as anything.
Crank it loud and let the storm roll in.
