Grimes Releases “Accelerando” From New AI-Inspired (But Not AI-Generated) Album

Grimes is back with "Accelerando," the first proper taste of her new concept album Psy Opera. The title is pure Grimes, the kind of cosmic doom-pop framing she's been chasing since Visions dropped in 2012 and got weirder on Miss Anthropocene. This one's a concept record about human extinction via AI, and her belief that we're not as replaceable as the tech true believers claim.

Here's the twist: no generative AI in the music. She was clear about that. The trailer she posted Wednesday took 70 humans and many months of work. She did cop to using Deepseek for lyrics on a track about, naturally, Deepseek.

The track itself is a glittering ripper, all propulsion and dread, the sound of someone who still remembers "Oblivion" and wants to push further out. Grimes has always lived in the future and worried about it too.

Psy Opera could be her most ambitious swing yet. Let the apocalypse pop begin.
