Krill are back. The Boston trio who tangled up mathy guitars and pure neurosis in the early 2010s just announced a new album, Secret Language, and dropped lead track "Dominate."
For a certain kind of indie kid, this is huge. Krill were the cult band that soundtracked a generation of scrappy, guitar-centric obsessives, a lifeline back when everyone else was chasing synthpop and R&B. Records like Lucky Leaves and 2015's A Distant Fist Unclenching turned anxious ramble into gospel. Remember "Turd"? The band whose whole ethos was "Krill forever" felt like it might not last, but here we are.
"Dominate" proves the itch never left. Those jittery guitars, that off-kilter tension, the sense that something could unravel any second: it all comes roaring back with more muscle this time.
Turns out everything comes back around eventually, even the bands you figured were gone for good. Secret Language is coming, and the faithful are already grinning. A stunner of a reunion.
