Liars are back with a new album, and the timing feels loaded. We're closing in on 25 years since their debut, They Threw Us All In A Trench And Stuck A Monument On Top, that jagged 2001 stunner from the old New York scene. A quarter century on, Angus Andrew keeps the name alive. For about a decade now, Liars has been his solo thing, so the plural is a beautiful lie. He says there are many Liars. He's lying.
The last full record was The Apple Drop back in 2021, and now Andrew returns with something called A Ban On Plastic Bag Bans. The title alone is a gem, weird and vivid and very on brand for a guy who's spent his career refusing to sit still.
Lead track "Ice Pick, Kalamazoo" arrives first, a proper taste of the new era. Two decades deep and still restless. That's the whole appeal.
