Mei Semones Announces New Album Howl

Mei Semones is back, and she's announcing her new album Howl today. The idiosyncratic indie artist dropped her debut Animaru last year, a gem that earned her a spot on our Artist To Watch list, and she's been climbing ever since. Now she's hitting the big leagues.

Howl marks her first record for new label home Verve/Interscope. That's a real leap from Bayonet, the indie that housed Animaru and its jazz-kissed, guitar-woven moments. The title track is out now, and it's a stunner. Everything that made her early work special, the nimble fretwork, the shifting time signatures, the way she bends between languages, it's all here and sharper than before.

This is an artist who built something distinct from the ground up. From those first Animaru tracks to this new belter, she's never once played it safe. The ascent feels earned, every step of it.

Howl is coming, and if the title track is any sign, it's going to be a moment.
