Michael Kiwanuka is back with a self-produced new LP. The record was written "almost concurrently" with 2024's Small Changes, which means these tracks come from the same creative rush that gave us that album's warm, soulful stretch. So this isn't leftovers. It's a companion piece, born in the same room.
Kiwanuka has built a reputation on patience and craft. From the hushed folk of 2012's Home Again to the sprawling ambition of 2019's KIWANUKA, he keeps expanding his palette. That title track "Love & Hate" still hits like a gut punch years later, and his ear for a slow-building anthem has only sharpened.
Handling production himself is a bold move, but he has earned that trust. Expect vintage strings, gospel textures, and vocals that ache in all the right places. This feels like a moment for one of Britain's most soulful voices.
Two albums pulled from one fertile stretch. That's a stunner of a run.
