Mike Watt is back, and he's not slowing down. The Minutemen cofounder just announced a collaborative record with Ontario experimental noise rockers Thresher, called Beekeeper, out next week. This is peak Watt: restless, generous, always chasing the next low-end conversation.
It's been a busy stretch. Earlier this year he traded covers with J Mascis on a split, each band tackling the other's material, a killer little document of two lifers who go way back. Now he's leaning into scuzz and skronk with Thresher, which feels like a natural move for a guy who's been bending genres since Double Nickels on the Dime in 1984.
There's more too. Watt has a fresh supergroup with Mike Baggetta and John Herndon, more proof he treats collaboration as fuel. The man plays bass like it's a full sentence, and every project he touches gets that spine.
