Mogwai – “Underground” (Feat. Iggy Pop)

Mogwai are dropping a career-spanning collection next year called Happy Tears. Thirty years deep, and the Scottish post-rock lifers are finally giving us the greatest-hits treatment. It's a weird look for a band built on slow-burn dynamics and wordless crescendos, the kind of outfit that made "Mogwai Fear Satan" a cult anthem back in 1997. But the move makes sense.

The real moment here: a brand new track called "Underground." It's a collaboration with Iggy Pop, which is a pairing that writes itself. Iggy was bending loud rock into strange shapes decades before these guys picked up guitars, and hearing him over Mogwai's crushing textures feels like a summit of noise lifers.

Fans who've lived with Hardcore Will Never Die, But You Will or the gorgeous dread of Come On Die Young know how wide this band can swing. From ambient hush to sheer wall-of-sound force, they do it all.

Thirty years in and still landing killers. What a run.
