Nikki Nair is back with another EP, and the Atlanta producer is moving fast. He's calling this one Majestic Animals, dropping on a new label after a run that keeps building. Just a couple months ago he put out The Sick Dimension on dh2, George Daniel's dance-focused Dirty Hit imprint, so the momentum is real.
Nair has spent the last few years in good company. He's worked with Hudson Mohawke, he's teamed with the Avalanches, and his restless club instincts have made him one of the most watchable names in American dance music right now.
The lead track is "Groundhogs," a twitchy, bass-heavy gem that shows off his knack for melting genres into something slippery and his own. It's a killer taste of what's coming.
If you've been following his skittering, mutant output since the early EPs, this fits right in and pushes further. Majestic Animals is shaping up to be a stunner. Go hear "Groundhogs" now and get ready for the rest.
