Philip Frobos is back on his own. The Omni frontman just dropped two covers, and they show off the restless side we've loved since his 2021 solo debut Vague Enough To Satisfy.
First up: a take on Sorry's 2024 track "Waxwing." Second: Jane Birkin's 1973 gem "Kawasaki," which is a deep cut pull that proves the guy knows his history.
It's been a busy stretch for Frobos. Omni put out Souvenir last year, and the Atlanta post-punk crew is currently marking their debut Deluxe with a deluxe reissue, a nice full-circle moment for fans who've followed since the jittery guitars of that first run.
These covers sit in that same world: angular, sharp, a little wistful. Frobos has always had an ear for the odd angle, and reworking songs from two very different eras is exactly the kind of move you'd expect from him.
Two covers, one restless songwriter. This is a lovely little sleeper to sit with.
