Patrick Higgins and Nicolas Jaar have a new duo, and it's called AEAEA. Say it however you want. The debut album Mist arrives this fall, and the first taste, "Sunrise On Lethe," is a slow-burning stunner.
Jaar has always been a restless mind. From Space Is Only Noise back in 2011 to the sprawling Sirens in 2016, he keeps chasing new shapes. Higgins brings the guitar craft, all texture and precision, the kind of playing that rewards headphones and patience.
Together they build something hazy and hypnotic. "Sunrise On Lethe" drifts and swells, a track that trusts space as much as sound. It's ambient without going sleepy, electronic without losing warmth.
This feels like two players who trust each other completely. No rush, no filler, just a moment stretched out and savored.
Mist looks like the sound of two catalogs colliding into something fresh. Play the new one loud, then let it fade. This one lingers.
