Show Me The Body just covered Charli XCX's "Rock Music," and they took the joke literally. Back in May, Charli dropped the track as the giddy lead single off Music, Fashion, Film, half provocation, half wink: "I think the dancefloor is dead, so now we're making rawwwwwwwk music." It was a goof with teeth. Even Madonna took the bait for a minute before the beef fizzled, and now Charli's set to turn up on Madonna's "Danceteria" remix this Friday.
But the NYC hardcore crew flipped the punchline into something heavier. They heard "rock music" and made actual rock music, all grind and grit, the same feral energy that ran through Body War back in 2016 and every ripper since.
It's the kind of cross-genre moment that shouldn't work but absolutely does. Charli winking at rock, hardcore lifers answering the call for real.
Two worlds colliding, and both come out swinging. Go blast it loud.
