Slack Times are back with a new record. The Birmingham, Alabama crew just announced Casting, their next full-length, and dropped lead track "Goodbye" to set the tone. Alabama isn't the first place you'd look for shimmery jangle, but these guys have spent years bending that expectation.
They've been sharpening this brightly woozy indie pop for a while now. If you caught their earlier stuff, the fuzzed-out hooks on their self-titled cuts, you already know the sound: guitars that ring out, melodies that hang in the air, a little haze over everything.
"Goodbye" is a gem. It carries that same shimmer but feels tighter, more assured, like a band that finally knows exactly what it wants to say. There's momentum here, and it shows in every chiming chord.
Casting looks set to be their most focused statement yet, a proper leap for a group that keeps outgrowing its zip code.
Sleeper hit incoming. Keep this one on your radar.
