Grumpy are back, and this one feels big. Last year the Piebald EP cemented Heaven Schmitt's project as one to watch, and we caught that record release show at TV Eye in Queens like the true believers we are. A lot has changed since. What started as Schmitt's solo vehicle has bloomed into a full band, and that shift bleeds into everything about the new record.
Unfindable Ring drops later this month, and the early singles already hit. "Twenty Five" is a slow-burning gem. "OBL" rips. The D.A. Crimson collab "The Whale" might be the sleeper of the bunch, a track that rewards repeat spins.
Now comes the payoff: a proper release show next month to mark the occasion. Grumpy have the momentum, the band, and the songs to back it up, and this feels like a real moment for a project that keeps leveling up.
If you missed the Piebald era, consider this your invitation. Don't sleep on this one.
