Straw Man Army are back, and this time they've swapped the amps for acoustics. The New York duo make some of the coolest psychedelic post-punk around, all krautrock pulse and big-picture ambition. You heard it on 2020's Age Of Exile, and you heard it again on Earthworks, the record that capped their trilogy two years back.
Now comes True North, a new concept album with a twist. They're going fully acoustic this time.
That's a bold pivot for a band built on hypnotic, motorik tension. But if anyone can bend a concept into something fresh, it's these two. Lead track "Striking Home" gives you the first taste of the new direction, and it's a gem: intimate, patient, still carrying that restless Straw Man Army spirit.
The trilogy days may be behind them, but the momentum keeps building. This feels like a band unafraid to rebuild from the ground up.
