The Avalanches are back with another single. It's called "Far Away," and it features John Glacier and Khadija Al Hanafi trading space over the kind of dusty, sample-stitched groove these Aussies have made their calling card since Since I Left You dropped in 2000. That record set the bar. Wildflower kept the plunderphonic dream alive in 2016, and now No Bad Memories arrives next month with a wild 25 tracks.
The guest list is a stunner. Mike Patton lands on three cuts, one alongside Haley Joel Osment of all people. Carly Simon shows up. So do Rivers Cuomo and Panda Bear, names you'd never expect on the same tracklist.
"Far Away" is a gem, a warm, drifting moment that proves these crate-diggers still know how to build something out of ghosts. The singles keep rolling in, and each one sharpens the picture.
Nearly a decade since their last full-length, the Avalanches sound hungry again. This one's shaping up to be a belter.
