The Church are back with another record, and the Australian legends show no signs of slowing down. Nearly half a century deep, these guys were giants of late-'80s college rock, the kind of band who turned jangly, gauzy space-out sound into an art form. You know "Under The Milky Way Tonight," sure. But dig into 1988's Starfish or the swirling deep cuts scattered across their catalog and you find a band that never coasted.
Now comes Lacuna, the follow-up to 2024's Eros Zeta And The Perfumed Guitars. The lead track "Western" is a stunner: hazy, patient, built on the shimmering guitar work that's been their signature since the Steve Kilbey days.
Here's the wild part. Most bands their age are running greatest-hits tours. The Church keep writing new material that actually matters, adding chapters instead of resting on old glory.
