This Is The Kit are back with another one. Kate Stables, the Paris-based songwriter who has been folding folk into indie rock since the days of "Moonshine Freeze," has announced a new LP called Ghost Coat, out in January. This is a moment.
She tracked it at Rockfield Studios in rural Wales, the same room that captured the Stone Roses, Oasis, Motörhead, and Queen. History soaked into the walls. And Stables is calling this her most collaborative record yet, which is saying something for an artist whose banjo-driven belters have always felt like a group hug.
Beyond her usual band, the guest list is stacked: Richard Dawson, Sam Amidon, Ben Howard, the Portron brothers of Portron Portron Lopez, and Emma Broughton, aka Blumi. That is a serious crew.
Lead track "Skim A Stone" is out now, and it carries the warm, patient pull fans loved on 2020's Off Off On.
Ghost Coat sounds like a keeper. Mark the date.
