THIS WEEK'S HIP HOP BOPS

Yaz – Who Said That?

Yaz's 'Who Said That?' is a commanding hip-hop anthem that proves swagger and substance can share the same bar, brilliant and utterly convincing.

Yaz

Yaz opens 'Who Said That?' with a declaration that lands like a thrown gauntlet. The production rides in all confident while her flow shifts between braggadocio and hard-won wisdom. Each bar build that evidence that women can hold multiple identities without apology. And the hook? This done definitely lands. And the kind of energy that demands repeat plays, and lines like 'I don't do the humble brag, I just brag / Four daughters, one husband, multiple bags' cut through with precision. There is no hedging here, no softening of edges. It's powerful alternative hip-hop, sharp and very much in her own lane.

Yaz grew up in Newport News, Virginia before settling in the Bay Area, California, where she balances raising four daughters with building House of Yaz, a luxury lifestyle brand rooted in empowerment and culture. Her music refuses neat categorisation, drawing from conscious hip-hop, R&B, and pop to reflect the layered experience of modern Black womanhood. She has been featured in Real Rap Articles and performed at independent showcases during BET Awards Weekend 2025. The single has already landed on multiple Spotify playlists, including Hiphop & RnB, and earned praise from industry figures like A&R Stephon Dupree. We're not surprised, cos this one's great. We are very glad to have this artist on our radar.
