THIS WEEK'S INDIE FOLK BOPS

Man From The Woods – We Live In These Woods

Man From The Woods crafts a gorgeous alt-folk meditation that ranks among the more immersive recordings we've heard this year

Man From The Woods

Man From The Woods invites you to step into the undergrowth with 'We Live In These Woods'. This short, immersive track builds itself from layered voices and field recordings captures the forest itself. There's trees, creatures, and all those lovely breathing things that surround his remote cabin. The production is deliberately simple, allowing the organic textures to kinda grow rather than compete. As a huge Sparklehorse fan, there's a lot for me to enjoy here. I particularly love the ambient textures, but it's really the song that shines here. Lovely, evocative alt-folk, atmospheric and a banger of a vocal too.

Man From The Woods is an anonymous artist working from a secluded cabin somewhere in the English countryside. His music draws on the introspective songwriting of Elliott Smith, Jason Molina, and Bonnie Prince Billy, alongside the textural experiments of Four Tet. He first reached a wider audience when 'Migration Song' featured on the soundtrack of Channel 4's Skins series 2, and he has since built a devoted cult following among those who seek something slower and more contemplative. We're on board now, and are very glad to have this one on our radar.
