THIS WEEK'S INDIE POP BOPS

Dorothy Mour – Run to the Gates of Troy

Dorothy Mour's 'Run to the Gates of Troy' is a cinematic trip-hop epic from Stockholm, mythic art pop that builds to wall-of-sound grandeur

Dorothy Mour

The opening is almost tender: piano and saxophone alone, close and hushed, before the whole thing cracks open. Dorothy Mour's 'Run to the Gates of Troy' takes the doomed love of Achilles and Patroclus and scores it like a film you can't look away from. When those drums arrive and everything shifts, with 60s choir harmonies stacking high while electric steel guitars cut through the mix, and I'm in an alt-pop / trip hop dreamworld . Parts pull back just enough to let you breathe before the climax lands, full and wonderful. Stunning trip-hop art pop, sweeping and evocative.

Dorothy Mour is a Stockholm artist whose sound draws on jazz textures and hip hop grooves, writing in English, Swedish, and German. Her artistry took shape in Berlin's underground scene, and since returning to Sweden she's played Kulturhuset Stadsteatern and Stockholm's International Film Festival. This single is inspired by Madeline Miller's The Song of Achilles, with a debut album due winter 2027. One to watch, this.
