The title lies, and that's entirely the point. 'This Perfect Summer' opens with mercury rising and fire outside, then catalogues collapse: dead birds falling, crops failing, roads shimmering into nowhere, smoke darkening the daylight. Jamie Telford delivers these images with wistful detachment, his vocal sitting somewhere between resignation and quiet alarm. The treble recorder threads through like something half-remembered from a childhood holiday, while Sean Read's saxes add unexpected warmth beneath the unease. Ali Friend's stand-up bass grounds the whole thing, acoustic and present, as the arrangement builds density without ever losing its groove. And that hook? It's a banger. Brilliant indie rock, unsettling and beautifully crafted.
My Glass World are a British duo built around Jamie Telford and Sean Read, back with us again after 'River Of Light' a few months back. This one lands as track seven on forthcoming album 'Extraordinary Renditions', out 18 September via Luxury Noise Records. It's their eighth record, and the fifth full-length collaboration between the pair, recorded across sessions split between Scotland and Hackney's Famous Times. We love this; a band doing their own thing for years who keep getting sharper.
