Static Country Club is the solo project of William Hoffman, a multi-instrumentalist based in Portland, Oregon. He started on piano before picking up a guitar and falling hard for Nirvana and the pop-punk records that shaped a generation. Outside the studio, he coaches high school football. Adam Eckels wastes no time on 'Don't Ask'. The guitar comes in sharp and stays that way, punchy and bright, while Matt Rubano's bass anchors the whole thing with serious weight. There's a punk edge here that keeps the energy urgent, but the melody knows exactly where it's going. Gunnar Olsen's drums lock in tight, driving the track forward without ever overcrowding it. And that chorus? It lands. Eckels' vocal sits right in the pocket, direct and full of conviction, and the production is really great on this. Brilliant 90s-flavoured alt-rock, lean and completely alive.
Eckels is a singer-songwriter from Shavertown, Pennsylvania, drawing on influences that stretch from Jane's Addiction to blink-182, Pete Yorn to Angels and Airwaves. It's a guitar-first approach, always from the heart, and you can hear all of it in the way this track moves. 'Don't Ask' dropped in October, and it's a strong statement of where he's at right now.
