Thousand Pieces – Hey Man. Amen.
Thousand Pieces' 'Hey Man. Amen.' is a stunning slice of gritty indie rock from Bedford, desperate and beautifully honest in equal measure
Jamie Smith knows how to write about the people you can't save. 'Hey Man. Amen.' opens on a restless guitar line before the band kicks in, driving forward with urgency that matches its subject. It's about watching a friend battle alcoholism, about the helplessness when rehab fails and support isn't enough. The title becomes a refrain that lands somewhere between exhaustion and prayer. There's a real Sam Fender rawness here, that willingness to stay in the difficult moment. The chorus lifts without offering false comfort. Gritty indie rock, honest and unflinching.
Thousand Pieces is Jamie Smith's solo project. He picked up his first guitar at 21 with no interest in covers, spent a decade gigging London's circuit with Toydrum at places like the Hope & Anchor and Dublin Castle, and now he's back to what drew him in: stories through songs. Next single 'Lucky Stars' arrived last week, with a five-track EP planned for March. A real one this, we love it.
