THIS WEEK'S INDIE ROCK BOPS

It's Doctor – Rash Vest

It's Doctor's 'Rash Vest' is a brilliantly offbeat alt-rock gem from London, surf-punk energy and deadpan wit colliding in a track that's impossible not to love.

It's Doctor

It's Doctor have written a song about losing a rash vest and getting sunburned. And the most surprising thing here is that it actually works. It barrels forward on fuzzy guitars and a B52s-esque rhythm section that refuses to let up, Doctor G's vocals threading through with wry detachment that makes absurdity feel completely natural. The melody sticks, the hooks land, and there's a looseness to the whole thing that suggests a band having genuine fun in the room. The production keeps everything punchy without crowding the mix, letting each guitar line breathe while the drums push the whole thing along. Brilliant garage-inflected alt-rock, sharp and utterly charming.

It's Doctor are a London and Brighton trio built around Welsh singer-songwriter and bassist Doctor G, with Doctor P on guitar and Doctor M on drums. They've been recording together for over a decade now, and 'Rash Vest' follows their fifth album, Darkness In Me, out last month via Danger Records. Live dates are lined up through the autumn, including New Cross Inn and The Phoenix. This one will be on repeat in my house, it's a banger.
