Xeno Ray JNB – Contrast Our Sky
Xeno Ray JNB's 'In The Air' is a hazy, psychedelic highlight from South Carolina, experimental hip-hop and ambient textures colliding in something genuinely special
Xeno Ray JNB opens 'In The Air' with digital fog. Layers of ambient drift settle before the beat arrives, patient and slightly off-centre, and when the vocals fold i, they sit low in the mix, half-spoken, half-sung. The production is laptop-made but never thin, and I just love the overloaded, off-kilter vibe here, textures overlapping and blurring, synths bleeding into each other. It's very psychedelic without being showy, introspective without disappearing. And that atmosphere? It pulls you right in. Brilliant experimental hip-hop, intimate and atmospheric.
Xeno Ray JNB is an independent artist and producer from South Carolina working across electronic music, experimental hip-hop, and ambient soundscapes. His debut album Mono Modern dropped in May 2026, exploring technological anxiety and the challenges facing independent artists. 'In The Air' is taken from his follow-up EP, and in my mind, i'm everyone CLOUD, out now. He writes, records, produces, mixes and masters everything himself; essential to create such a singular vision. We're keeping an eye on this one.
