Stevens' guitar work is lovely throughout, threading elegant lines through a production that never crowds the vocal. And its the vocal that shines. It's brilliant. Gorgeous contemporary soul, sophisticated and deeply affecting.
Christina Cunningham is a smooth jazz and soul vocalist from West Virginia, a state not exactly overflowing with artists in this space. Her influences run to Anita Baker and Nancy Wilson, and you can hear that lineage in the phrasing, in the way she treats a lyric like something worth savouring. She's building her career independently, with a focus on intentional storytelling and music that connects across generations. We're really glad to have her on the blog, and this is a real soul stunner.
