Mick J. Clark – It's Getting Near Christmas
Mick J. Clark's 'It's Getting Near Christmas' is a brilliant slice of festive power pop from Croydon, warm, joyful, and impossible not to sing over your Christmas dinner
Mick J. Clark knows exactly what he's doing here. 'It's Getting Near Christmas' opens with that unmistakable soft rock shimmer, keys bright and guitars jangling, before settling into a groove that carries all the excitement of the countdown to December 25th. There's romance threaded through it too, a sweetness in the melody that never tips into saccharine. The arrangement has that 80s pop sheen, full of festive joy, without ever feeling cluttered, and Clark's vocal sits right in the pocket. Brilliant seasonal power pop, sincere and wonderfully alive.
Clark is back with us again after 'Sing Glory Glory Hallelujah' just a few weeks ago. He's a Croydon singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist signed to Warner/Chappell Publishing and Universal Records Operations, with over a million Spotify streams. And he shows no sign of slowing down this prolific run; his Christmas EP 'Mick's Christmas Mix' has racked up over 300,000 streams, and his work promoting positive messages in schools has been adopted by Croydon's Education Department. A real festive gem.
