Nine Petals – Turn It Up Now! Hey Hey
Nine Petals' 'Turn It Up Now! Hey Hey' is a sun-drenched collision of reggae, Latin pop and jazz from Miami, a genre-fluid summer anthem that absolutely delivers.
'Turn It Up Now! Hey Hey' opens with pure Miami heat. Nine Petals pulls reggae rhythms into a Latin pop framework, threads jazz voicings through the whole thing until you're not sure where one ends and the other begins. The production is fascinating: singing bowls, bells, wind chimes layered into textures that feel sculptural. It's loads of fun, and a great fusion of a range of great genres. A track about cherishing good memories, and it sounds exactly like that feels. Brilliant genre-fluid pop, inventive and joyful.
Nine Petals is a Miami-based songwriter working from a tiny downtown studio. There's Marley in the bones, Shakira in the groove, and it comes together as something distinctly their own. Having studied sculpture, they treat sound design like visual art, shaping waveforms as forms. The single dropped back in August as part of a collection that includes tracks in five languages. A brilliant blend of a trak, more please!
