Definitely one of my favourite genre’s, this week’s alt pop picks dive into atmosphere, introspection and cinematic songwriting. So why don’t we get stuck into the tunes?

Moon Construction Kit – Snake charmer
Moon Construction Kit crafts a haunting alt-pop soundscape where lush psych-pop textures meet wonderfully introspective songwriting
Snake charmer drifts through swirling 60s-inspired psych-pop layers, pairing warm analogue tones with dreamy melodies and quietly immersive production.
Moon Construction Kit is the solo project of Swiss musician and producer Olivier Cornu. Working from a home recording setup, his music blends alternative pop, indie rock and cinematic textures shaped by late 60s influences.
The track explores themes of addiction and inner conflict while maintaining a hypnotic and atmospheric sonic palette. It’s a compelling production, and I’m keen to hear where he goes next.
50mething – You can’t tear it up.
50mething delivers socially reflective alt-pop built around stark storytelling and thoughtful, message-driven songwriting
You can’t tear it up opens with impressive, restrained instrumentation and direct lyrical focus, allowing the song’s themes and narrative to sit front and centre. There’s an honesty to this Talking Heads-style of vocal delivery that I love.
50mething is an independent songwriter releasing music later in life after building a large catalogue of previously unreleased material. Drawing inspiration from social and political events, his songs focus on commentary and reflection.
The project continues a gradual rollout of new music, with dozens of tracks planned for release. Brilliant stuff, more of this please.
KATRINA – Different Life – Afterglow
KATRINA blends cinematic alt pop and groove-driven R&B into an impressive, emotionally layered disco bop
Different Life – Afterglow pairs velvet vocal tones with atmospheric production and slow-burning rhythm, creating a reflective late-night pop atmosphere.
KATRINA is an Asheville, North Carolina-based vocalist, songwriter and producer whose music blends alt pop, soulful R&B and cinematic storytelling. Her debut concept EP GOODGrief explores the emotional stages of heartbreak through a connected narrative.
The track closes the EP with a reimagined arrangement that revisits earlier themes while shifting the emotional perspective. It’s a great vibe and a hook you’ll be singing for days.
